Picture
of the Month Every picture tells a story...
Here I was on jump run at 10,000', about 15 seconds before exit. Everything
was just perfect for the Jump! Australia brochure shoot - baby blue skies, early morning
sunlight, freshly washed jump suits and a perfect wind direction for a spot over 'the
House'.
I put my helmet on, snapped on the locking clip and heard a
loud crack as the jaw piece of my full faced camera helmet shattered.
10 seconds to exit, my brain racing, how could I turn this
situation around? The spotter called power off and a quick change of exit order
allowed me precious seconds to think. As the Tandem pair climbed out I made the
decision to hand hold the helmet to my head and fly with my elbows.
To my great relief, when the photos came back from
development I got ONE useable shot that captured the classic birds eye view of a Tandem
and Video jump right over Australia's most recognised house.
My new helmet is made from indestructible Carbon Fibre.
